Anwar believes Pakatan will hold as cracks appear

PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim has broken his silence over the internal strife within Pakatan Rakyat over the Selangor crisis, stating that he believed the coalition will remain, based on its past consensus building approach.

This comes amid a warning by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng that Pakatan Rakyat may break up over PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's insistence to retain Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor Menteri Besar.

"I believe the spirit of consensus will remain within Pakatan Rakyat to bring change and generate a sustainable economic growth that is more concerned about the people," he said in a brief three-paragraph statement today.

However, Anwar did not appear willing to back down from PKR's decision to replace Abdul Khalid with its president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Anwar said Khalid (left) had already been informed that he would be replaced since March.

"This transition is a continuation of the Kajang move which was decided by the PKR leadershp since Jan 15.

"Khalid Ibrahim himself was informed of this since March 2014 and Wan Azizah was officially presented (as a replacement) by the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council last week," he said.

Both DAP and PKR have criticised Abdul Hadi for unilaterally declaring his backing for Abdul Khalid despite a July 23 Pakatan leadership council meeting, attended by six PAS leaders, agreeing to replace Abdul Khalid.

However, Abdul Hadi's call has received backing from various quarters in PAS including spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who urged party members to back its president.

Both senior PAS leaders have said Abdul Khalid had not conducted any serious breach of trust and any differences could be resolved amicably instead of having him replaced.
