DAP lodges report over DPM's May 13 remark

Batu Kawan DAP members today lodged a police report in Perai against Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for his May 13 remarks.

Muhyiddin, who is also Umno national deputy president, was quoted in Utusan Malaysia saying that a May 13 racial riot was not impossible if there was disunity among the races.

DAP spokesperson Satees Muniandy urged the police to act on Muhyiddin's statement, which he deemed "seditious".

Satees said Malaysians aren't afraid of the ghost of May 13 anymore as it is "dead and buried".

"We are a matured Malaysian society now, and we can resolve our differences of opinion in a more matured way, like through discussion," said Satees.

"Muhyiddin is living in denial thinking that Malaysians will fooled by their racial antics," he added.

"Not all Malaysians appreciate Muhyiddin's comment; in fact most Malaysians are angry with his comment," said Satees.

Satees said only "racist" organisations like Perkasa support Muhyiddin's statement.

Muhyiddin's remark had prompted Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy, who viewed the comment as a threat, to ask the DPM to "bring on" a May 13 as the latter keeps harping and bringing up the matter.

Ramasamy said since NGOs like Isma and Perkasa want a repeat of the incident, why not bring it on, as he was not afraid of it but was "sick and tired" of the repeated warnings and the purported blame on non-Malays whenever the country is faced with problems.

In response, Penang Perkasa chairperson Fadzil Shuib yesterday said that Ramasamy's effigy will be torched if he does not show up for a dialogue with the NGO members.

They said they want to meet Ramasamy to purportedly explain to him the importance of unity, saying that he had misunderstood Muhyiddin who never mentioned May 13 in his remark.

Last weekend, Muhyiddin alluded to a certain racial riot but mischievously said he did not want to name the date.

However the Utusan article headlined the DPM referring to the May 13, 1969 riots.
