Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's official car is once again in the spotlight after a photo of it in a ‘no parking’ zone at a shopping mall was circulated on social media.
The photo was published in a pro-BN Facebook account, which also offered a RM20 award to the photographer who snapped the image of the grey Mercedes Benz with the plate PG1 at Times Square along Jalan Dato Keramat.
It is uncertain who or when took the photo but some Facebook users have also offered higher rewards for the photo.
Today, the China Presspublished a story on the issue based on the information in the said Facebook account and this did not go down well with Lim.
"If the newspaper can publish such a story, why doesn't it mention that it is from a pro-BN Facebook page," said Lim in a press conference today.
"If they can publish this, why don't they also publish stories on Facebook regarding the spending habits of wives of BN leaders, for example, those who love to spend on expensive handbags?" queried the DAP secretary-general.
Lim said his driver was upset about the story as the management of Times Square had offered him to park the car there.
His driver was reportedly standing near the car although China Press reported that it was uncertain if he was in the car or not.
He added that Times Square was a private premise and that it was up to the management to allow cars to be parked there.
Lim was attacked previously when photos of his official car parked illegally in Lebuh Campbell went viral.
Meanwhile, the Penang Times Square responded to media queries by saying that car park attendants have been instructed to allow VIP vehicles to park there to drop their passengers off.
"We have given the approval for the vehicle to be there. This is a non-issue as it is within our compound," Time Square general manager CC Yeap said via text message to the media.
