'Hitler' Bung continues to shoot himself in foot

If there is one person who can perform even worse than the Brazilian football team in its World Cup semi-final match against Germany, it must be Bung Moktar Radin.

Despite coming under intense criticism over his Adolf Hitler tweet, including from the German ambassador to Malaysia, the Kinabatangan MP remains defiant.

Continuing his bland humour, his twitter response to a female journalist, who quizzed him on the controversy, also included an image of a green bra and the alphabets "ZIL".

Bung, who is known for shooting his mouth off, said: "I was referring to the strength of Germany's football team as in Hitler's time. How they humiliated Brazil 7-1."

To other queries regarding the backlash from the German ambassador, he added: "I don't really need to convince everybody."

Meanwhile, Bung also shot to international stardom after his tweet was picked up by Time magazine under the heading, "A Malaysian legislator tweets praise to Hitler after Germany's soccer triumph."

The German ambassador to Malaysia Holger Michael told Timethat Bung's tweet was distasteful

"We strongly reject the distasteful and unacceptable allusion to the fascist regime of Adolf Hitler," the envoy was quoted as saying.

The issue was also reported by BBC, under the headline "Malaysian MP admires Germany win - and Hitler - in tweet."

I was only joking...

Bung courted controversy in the aftermath of the match between Brazil and Germany, where the football-crazy host nation suffered its worst ever defeat.

"Well done... Bravo… Long live Hitler," he tweeted.

But Bung showed no remorse as reflected in his interview with The Star, where he described his remarks as a joke and lamented that people lacked a sense of humour.

"I don't know what's wrong with people sometimes. Hitler is part of history and the German team fought like how he did.

"I think people nowadays should transform their mentality. Whatever I tweet people hit me. They are not hitting me because of Hitler but because I am Bung Moktar," he said.

Shooting himself further in the foot, Bung also bemoaned the lack of a Hitler-like figure in strife-torn Gaza.

A Twitter user had asked him: "If fighting like Hitler is praiseworthy, what are your thoughts on Gaza? Someone's fighting like Hitler over there, too."

And the lawmaker replied, "There is nobody like Hitler in Gaza. Unlucky for them."
