MB: Don't exploit S'gor voters for Putrajaya bid

Embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has warned Pakatan Rakyat leaders against exploiting the people of the state in its bid to capture federal power.

Cautioning against turning the state into a launchpad for Putrajaya, he said the opposition bloc should first seek the voters' approval.

"If Pakatan wants to do so, it is better for them to seek a new mandate from the rakyat," he said in an interview with the state government's mouthpiece Selangor Kini.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim (left) had previously announced that Selangor would serve as the launchpad to Putrajaya in what was dubbed as the "Kajang Move".

According to the "Kajang Move" plan, Anwar was to contest the Kajang state seat in order to become the next menteri besar at the expense of Khalid.

But the move was foiled when the Court of Appeal convicted him for sodomy which rendered him ineligible for office.

Following this, his wife and party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail contested in the engineered by-election, and retained the Kajang seat for PKR.

On Monday, PKR announced its intention to install Wan Azizah as the next menteri besar replacing Khalid.

Meanwhile in the interview, Khalid was also asked on allegations that Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) had met several individuals in PKR to reach a solution.

"If that's the case, that means the party allowed someone to lobby against a decision that has been made by the state government.

"This goes against giving power to the people," he said, adding that the state administration should be given the chance to do what is necessary in the deal with the water concessionaires.
