Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman has maintained that the state government had never kept mum on the oil royalty issue as portrayed by certain parties, especially from the opposition.
Musa, who is also state finance minister, said the state government had its own approach in tackling the issue, although it had not been debated in the state legislative assembly.
"We have actually brought up the issue and discussed at length in the cabinet and party meetings and we have taken it to the attention of the prime minister, and he has directed Petronas to hold a thorough briefing and special discussion with members of the state cabinet.
"Petronas, led by its president and chief executive officer has briefed the state cabinet. The discussion was fruitful, as the state government and Petronas identified a number of specific methods or adding more interest to the state's interests in the oil and gas industry, thus, more allocation for the state," he said.
Musa was speaking at a breaking of fast with Prime Minister Najib Razak in Kota Kinabalu last night..
He said he was "very confident" and assured the discussion, briefing and implementation of the aforementioned specific methods would be beneficial to the people of Sabah.
Musa said in addition to the annual allocation under the five-year development plan, the state also received special funds for the RM250 million Sabah Internatioanl Convention Centre project and construction of the container terminal at the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) in Lahad Datu, at a whopping RM450 million.
He said the federal government had also allocated RM100 million for repair works on damaged roads and roads cut off by flood, collapsed riverbank structure and other related infrastructure works.
Musa hails Esscom revamp
Musa also reiterated the people and the state government hailed the restructuring exercise of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).
"We are hoping the east coast of Sabah or the Eastern Sabah Security Zone will be safeguarded effectively," he said.
On Najib's visit, Musa said the people of Sabah were grateful over the prime minister's willingness to come to Sabah and listen to the people's voice.
