KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been sacked from PKR with immediate effect.
The move will likely bring about snap elections in Malaysia's richest state.
Both the Selangor Sultan and Khalid are expected to plumb for snap polls - a move that will enable Prime Minister Najib Razak's Umno party to claw back seats, perhaps even the state government, form the ruling Pakatan Rakyat coalition led by federal Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
"It's either the Sultan allow Khalid to stay on or snap elections," MP for Batu and PKR vice-president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.
Gross indiscipline
In a statement by party disciplinary board chairman Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong, the decision was made after the Selangor menteri besar was found guilty of breaching party ranks.
“He has defied the party by going against the decision to appointing party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“Khalid has also failed to provide satisfactory explanation on issues pertaining his Bank Islam loan, the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway and the state water industry restructuring.
“He is therefore expelled from the party with immediate effect.” - Malaysia Chronicle
