Klang MP's office broken into, ransacked

Klang MP Charles Santiago's office was broken into today and ransacked for valuables.

Santiago told Malaysiakini wen contacted that he discovered around 10.30am today that his office in Klang was burglarised.

"About RM100 was stolen but we are still looking to see if any documents were stolen. We are not sure yet," he said.

He said police have since recorded a statement on an incident and will sweep his office for fingerprints later today.

Santiago said this is the second time his office has been broken into, the last time being in 2010 – which remained unsolved.

However, he said he did not think that the incident was politically motivated.

"There is no reason to believe that it is political, I think it is criminal, they (burglars) were looking for valuables," he said.

Santiago said the burglars cut the lock downstairs to access his office on the upper floor.

They then cut off the office's electricity supply to disable the CCTV and stole the device.

He added the burglars proceeded to ransack his office, including breaking a hole in his wall to open a locked door to his office room.

Santiago noted that Klang was facing problems with rampant crime and hoped the police would take firm action.
