MB told not to block state assembly sitting

Soldariti Anak Muda Malaysia  (Samm), an influential NGO linked to the opposition, has urged Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim not to block an emergency state assembly sitting to resolve the Selangor crisis.

Samm chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin said there was already one side from the ruling Pakatan Rakyat coalition which has proven they have the majority and therefore the crisis can now be resolved, in reference to PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

"There is already a show of support and signatures to prove the majority so if there are any quarter which want to disprove this, then do it democratically by convening the state assembly tomorrow and put an end this crisis," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Badrul, who is previously seen to be close to Khalid, appeared cautious as he barely made any direct reference to both the menteri besar and Wan Azizah throughout the press conference.

Asked if his statement meant that the onus to disprove Wan Azizah's claim of majority support lies with Khalid, he merely nodded in agreement.

He also urged the palace to facilitate the "restructuring" of the Selangor government to avoid further crisis.

"I appeal for the Selangor palace not to be a barrier for a particular side. There has to be a resolution so that the palace can remain relevant to the aspirations of the people.

"There is one side which already commands the majority, so open your doors and discuss (the matter)," said Badrul, who is also known as Chegubard.

On Thursday, Wan Azizah revealed she had the support of 30 state representatives - 13 from PKR, 15 from DAP and two from PAS - to replace Khalid, giving her a majority in the 56-member state assembly.

Prior to that, the Selangor palace had snubbed a request for Wan Azizah to obtain an audience with the palace.

Badrul also brushed aside a possible snap state election, reiterating that there was already a clear majority.

However, he stopped short of endorsing Wan Azizah, stressing that SAMM merely wanted to see a quick end to the crisis.

'PKR and Pakatan to blamed too'

Asked about criticism against Wan Azizah's capability if she became menteri besar, Badrul said that was up to Pakatan to decide.

He added that experience was not necessary to become menteri besar, cheekily saying: "If I have never got married before, does that mean I cannot get married because I have no experience in marriage?"

Badrul, who is also a PKR member, blamed Pakatan and PKR for the ongoing crisis because of their "poor handling" of the crisis in Selangor in the initial stages which spiralled into an almost unmitigated crisis.

This, he said, was aggravated by various quarters within Pakatan which issued statements that further inflamed the situation.

He added that certain senior leaders within Pakatan should also make way for younger leaders but declined to elaborate.

"Pakatan is not brave and keen enough to register as a single entity, therefore the situation is made worse when it's embroiled in a crisis," he said.

He said Pakatan needed to formalise its coalition under a single logo and permanent joint leadership council.

Asked if he was worried about disciplinary action for criticising PKR, Badrul said Samm comprises members of various political parties.

Samm's stance on the Selangor crisis and Pakatan was made after a deliberation by its coordinators nationwide today.
