MH17: Why Putrajaya slammed but not Holland?

MCA today queried whether PKR's Lumut MP Imran Abdul Hamid was merely out for a partisan jab at Putrajaya by questioning the military honours for the victims of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, when the Netherlands did the same.

"Why does he not lash out at the Dutch government whose armed forces also gave a dignified reception of the remains, where even the military bugle was sounded?

"The military honours at Kuala Lumpur International Airport was non-partisan in nature as MPs from both sides of the fence were invited to the ceremony," said Perak MCA chief Mah Hang Soon (right).

He was responding to Imran's criticism during the 10th National PKR Congress on Saturday where he described the military honours to be "excessive as even the fallen soldiers in the Lahad Datu conflict last year were not accorded the same treatment”.

Mah, who is also Chenderiang state assemblyperson, said that the the military honours for the victims was a way for the families to get closure.

“I urge that Imran to just zip those lips before further offending the departed from the MH17 tragedy, and their next of kin,” he said.

“It is easy for Imran to complain, but what solutions can he come up with to give the 23 victims a respectful and dignified final journey home?

“What remedy can he convey to the 12 other families whose loved ones still remain unaccounted for?” he added.

'Diversion from S'gor crisis?'

Mah questioned if Imran's criticism was merely a diversion away from the Selangor menteri besar crisis which Pakatan has become entangled in as state Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has defiantly refused to be replaced by PKR.

The remains of 20 of the 43 Malaysians who were on board of MH17 which was shot down over Ukraine were received on Aug 22 with a military honours.

The nation observed one minute of silence at 10.54am as a sign of respect for the fallen victims. It was also the country's first ever ceremonial military honours ever accorded to civilians.

Flight MH17 was shot down on July 17 over rebel-controlled eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 on board including 193 Netherlands nationals.
