As he left the court complex after posting bail this morning, PAS MP Khalid Samad was confronted by a group of angry Malay youths.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, he said that the youths hurled insults and one of them even spat on him.
"When I was leaving (the court complex), one young Malay fellow came up to me and asked me whether I am Khalid Samad, the Shah Alam MP. When I said yes, he spat at me.
"And then, some 10 others joined him and started shouting insults, calling me a traitor to the Malay race.
"As we walked towards the car, they started shouting loudly and behaved in an unruly manner. But they didn't touch me," he added.
Several people also witnessed the incident.
The Shah Alam lawmaker was charged with sedition at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for stating that the Selangor Islamic Affairs Council (Mais) be stripped of its executive powers.
He made the call when the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais), which comes under the purview of Mais, refused to return the seized Malay language bibles despite the attorney-general advising it to do so.
