More than one MB candidate in 2008 and 2013

SHAH ALAM: Khalid Ibrahim denied today that he was the only candidate for Menteri Besar that Pakatan Rakyat proposed to the Sultan of Selangor in 2008 and 2013.
Contradicting a claim made by Pakatan Rakyat last night, he told a press conference here that PAS and PKR made separate proposals to the Sultan both in 2008 and 2013.
“There were more than one name submitted to the Sultan,” he said. “The matter was not disclosed to the press.”
Last night, in a statement signed by PKR Secretary-General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and DAP Publicity Secretary Tony Pua, the two parties said they were sticking to their decision to nominate Wan Azizah Ismail as the sole candidate for Menteri Besar.
This was in defiance of a royal command for PAS, PKR and DAP to submit more than two names for the Sultan’s consideration. A statement from the palace yesterday said the submission of more than two names would be in accordance with convention.
Last night’s statement from DAP and PKR claimed that the Sultan had, in 2003, accepted Khalid as the only nominee from Pakatan Rakyat.
It said the two parties would submit only Wan Azizah’s name for the Sultan’s consideration, in accordance with “the convention set by PR in 2013″.
