PAS leader’s phone hacked to fuel S'gor crisis

Selangor PAS secretary Mohd Khairuddin Othman's mobile number was hacked to disseminate messages aimed at fuelling the political crisis in Selangor.

'My mobile number was hacked and used by someone to send irresponsible text messages that did not originate from my mobile phone," Khairuddin (below) said in a Facebook posting last night.

The message reads: "(PAS president) Hadi defends (Selangor Menteri Besar) Abdul Khalid Ibrahim because he is clean, not corrupt and disagrees with Anwar and PKR sweeping Selangor State Development Corporation's (PKNS) assets and big projects. PAS is made a step child in developmental projects."

The message went around hours after the PAS central committee yesterday unanimously decided to withdraw support for the embattled Khalid as menteri besar.

Shortly after the decision, Khairuddin issued a statement stating that Selangor PAS will comply with the party decision.

The hijacking of Khairuddin's mobile number for political sabotage is among many cases that have become a common place since the Sungai Limau by-election in Kedah last year.

In the Sungai Limau by-election held last November, former Kedah menteri besar Azizan Abdul Razak’s widow Faekah Sheikh Hamzah said her number had been hacked, on which text messages urging people to support the BN were sent out.

During the Kajang by-election in March, PKR leaders Azmin Ali, Tian Chua and Nurul Izzah's phone numbers were also hijacked to send messages critical of ally PAS to create internal friction among the coalition partners.

Likewise, several DAP leaders had their mobile numbers hijacked during the Bukit Gelugor by-election in May, during which racist text messages were sent out.
