PAS man maintains sultan against Azizah

PAS’ Sabak state assemblyperson Sallehen Mukhyi today insisted that PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will not be accepted by the selangor sultan as menteri besar.

This is despite his party yesterday endorsing Wan Azizah and her deputy Azmin Ali as candidates to replace embattled Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

“We have explained this before, we do not agree Wan Azizah (as menteri besar) not because she is a woman but we were informed by the palace that the palace will not give consent to Wan Azizah,” he told journalists when met in Shah Alam today.

Sallehen, who remains an exco member under Khalid’s state government, said for this reason PAS had nominated Azmin as an additional name.

However, he said since Pakatan yesterday decided to only submit Wan Azizah’s name to the place, it was up the coalition to give it a try.

“We can still try to make a formal submission of Wan Azizah’s name. What happens beyond that, I do not want to comment,” he said.

Pakatan yesterday settled for Wan Azizah after Azmin backed her despite his own nomination.

There has been speculations that the Selangor sultan may ask for another name other than Wan Azizah, thus PAS’ move to nominate an additional candidate.

Even though PAS formally withdrew its support from Khalid yesterday, it said four of its exco members will remain in the state government under Khalid.

This, it said, is to allow the state government to continue functioning while awaiting the return of the sultan from his overseas trip on Aug 27.
