Right-wing NGO Perkasa today said that it hopes that its patron Dr Mahathir Mohamad will meet with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to amicably resolve any differences between them.
Referring to Mahathir’s scathing criticism on Najib, Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali said that it will first seek a “heart-to-heart” meeting with the former prime minister to get a “clearer picture”.
“We would like to have a closed door discussion with Mahathir so that we can have a clearer picture regarding what he wrote in his blog,” Ibrahim told Malaysiakini after the NGO’s supreme council meeting.
Ibrahim said the contents of Mahathir's writing as well as statements from other Umno leaders on the matter were also discussed at length at the meeting today.
“We hope that Tun (Mahahir) and Najib can meet properly. Tun needs to be ready to meet Najib and Najib must give room to Tun and accept his views. Accept the good things professionally.
“I am confident that Tun can accept this,” he said.
The former Pasir Mas MP said Perkasa is seeking a closed door resolution as it does not want to further "muddy the waters".
Mahathir last week wrote a stinging blog post criticising Najib's leadership of the country and said that he is “withdrawing his support for Najib”.
The former premier said Najib is “soft” and silent on important issues in the country has disappointed him.
He also accused Najib of perfoming even worse than fifth prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Mahathir also highlighted Najib's governemnt policies, which he said were destroying relations between races.
