PKR veep: Khalid show-cause letter not faulty

PKR has refuted claims by embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim that PKR’s show-cause letter against the latter was “faulty”, saying that the letter was drafted in accordance to procedures.

According to party vice-president N Surendran, the claim that the letter was void of specifics is “completely baseless” as the charge is clearly stated in the letter.

“The charge contained in the letter dated Aug 5, 2014 states that Khalid (left) had by way of a press statement on July 22, 2014, defied the decision of the cental leadership committee to put forward Dr Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) as the menteri besar of Selangor.

“There is thus no ambiguity or lack of detail in the letter as alleged by Khalid. The letter then gives him an opportunity to explain his actions, as required by natural justice,” said Surendran in a statement sent late yesterday.

According to Surendran, who is a lawyer, there is no requirement to quote specific clauses of the party constitution in the show cause letter, as claimed by Khalid.

The MB’s move, he said, to “desperately cling to the position” despite PKR’s decision to replace him is also “undignified” and goes against the practice in modern democracies.

In his reply to the show-cause letter, Khalid said he could not give a response as the charge against was not specified, and thus the letter is “faulty”.

The letter by disciplinary committee head Tan Kee Kwong said the party central committee had, on Jan 15, decided that Khalid must resign, and had on July 21 decided that his replacement will be party president Wan Azizah (right).

However, the letter stated that Khalid had, in a media statement on July 22, “blatantly defied the leadership council’s decision by stating (his) refusal to resign as Selangor MB”.
