'Selangor already in emergency, Khalid playing stupid'

DAP's Klang MP Charles Santiago today warned that Selangor's water crisis has deteriorated to an emergency level, and charged that Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was "playing stupid" over the situation. 

"Khalid is refusing to impose water rationing as it will reflect badly on him. 

"But he needs to stop playing stupid and ignoring the growing water emergency for his political survival," he told a press conference in Klang this morning. 

Charles said if a combination of water rationing and conservation efforts do not start immediately, the state will not have any water left to ration. 

He said while Abdul Khalid has insisted the current level of 33.46 percent at Sungai Selangor dam was not a cause for concern, the actual water level was much lower. 

This, he said was because dams would always have "dead storage" of between 15 to 20 percent of its volume, which is unusable as it is comprised of mud, rubbish and sediment. [More to follow]
