Selangor exco members won't resign, for now

State executive council members from PAS will not resign from the Selangor government despite Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's sacking, says Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Ab Samad.

This comes after DAP says its exco members will continue working under Khalid, while exco members PKR are told to stay put for now.

"We (PAS exco members) will proceed with our work as usual. None have said they will quit. It's business as usual," he told journalists when met at PAS' hari raya open house in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Iskandar (left) said if the exco members were to resigned now, the Selangor government cannot function and the people may blame Pakatan Rakyat for this.

"The problem is if we do not cooperate (to maintain the state government), it is the rakyat that will become the victims," he said.

Iskandar, who is also part of the exco, said he was instructed by PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali to ensure the party's exco members in the state do not resign.

Yesterday, Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua said his party's exco members can no longer cooperate with a non-Pakatan Rakyat menteri besar and said they may consider resigning after deliberations at the central level today.

The DAP central executive committee eventually decided that all three exco members will remain for now to ensure the state government can continue to function pending a bid the remove Abdul Khalid as menteri besar.

DAP also backed PKR's decision to have Abdul Khalid replaced, leaving PAS the only dissentnig member in the state ruling coalition.

PKR deputy president and party Selangor chief Azmin Ali today also announced that his party's exco members will remain in the state government for the time being.

DAP has three exco members, while PAS and PKR has four and three members in the line up respectively.

'PAS exco members will obey Khalid'

Iskandar appeared more conciliatory towards the now party-less Abdul Khalid, in line with the PAS Syura Council decision to back the embattled menteri besar.

"For now, we are sticking with our stance and the stance of the Syura Council. We all know what that stance is," he said.

He added PAS exco members will continue to take instructions from Abdul Khalid and have no problems with him.

Meanwhile, PAS central committee member Khalid Abdul Samad(right) said he was shocked by Abdul Khalid's sacking but said whether PAS will continue to back him will be decided on August 17.

Abdul Khalid was yesterday sacked from PKR for defying the party's instruction for him to resign as menteri besar, to be replaced with PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

He was summoned to a disciplinary hearing on Friday but did not turn up. He, instead, asked for a postponement, which was not granted.

The hearing was to have Abdul Khalid explain several issues, in which he allegedly defied the party's wishes such, as his allowance hike and the rise in cost of business licenses in the state.
