Smaller pay checks for Nazir, Rozali last year


CIMB group chief executive Nazir Abdul Razak and Puncak Niaga Holdings chairperson Rozali Ismail are among six top executives who took home lesser last year, compared to the year before.

Malaysian Businessmagazine’s annual report on directors’ remuneration says that Nazir (left), who is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's brother, “slips down from to 16th from 13th previously”.

“(He) took home a lower remuneration of RM9 million, compared with RM10 million for 2012," the magazine reported in its latest edition.

“The survey also shows that six of the Top 20 directors received lower remunerations for 2013. They are Rozali Ismail (below) of Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd, Hassan Assad Basma of Bumi Armada Bhd, Jamaludin Ibrahim of Axiata Group Bhd,Nazir Razak of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, Choong Yee How of Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd and AK Nathan of Eversendai Corporation Bhd.”

According to the magazine reported that the highest paid individual at Puncak Niaga earned between RM13.5 to RM13.55 million.

The list is topped Genting Bhd which continues to give the highest payouts to its directors and top executives.

The highest paid individual at both Genting and Genting Bhd earned close to RM200 million in 2013.

It lists Lim Kok Thay as the top executive for both the companies.

The Genting companies are followed by IOI Corp, Tropicana Corp and YTL Corp.

In 2013, IOI Corp’s executive chairperson Lee Shin Cheng earned between RM52.1 to 52.15 million, Tropicana Corp’s group executive chairperson Tan hee Sing earned RM39 to RM39.5 million while YTL’s Yeoh Tiong Lay took home between RM22.85 to 22.9 million in 2013.



Meanwhile, ailing national carrier Malaysia Airlnes Systems Bhd (MAS)’s managing director Ahmad Jauhari Yahya received higher remuneration in 2013 compared to 2012.

“Group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, taking home a lower remuneration in the band of RM1,500,001-RM2,000,000, compared with RM1,500,001-RM2,500,000 previously,” the magazine reported.

Felda Global Ventures Bhd slipped down from 11th to 18th in the list in 2013, when it paid less to its directors and top executives a year after its debut on Bursa Malaysia.

 “(It paid) a lower remuneration to its key director, group president and CEO Mohd Emir Mavani Abdullah, of RM1, 248,775, compared with RM1,884,000 previously,” the magazine said.

Other prominent individuals in the list include recently-appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Wahid Omar (above) who as Maybank CEO earned RM3.65 million in 2013.

Wahid, who resigned to join government, earned a much higher RM6.26 million in 2012.

Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, who is named as top executive of Kretam Holdings, took home between RM1.85 to RM1.9 million in 2013.

Ali Hamsa, who is the chief secretary of the government also placed himself on the list, earning RM100,000 to RM150,000 as Bintulu Port Holdings chairperson last year.
