TARGETED FOR WEARING TOO MUCH JEWELLERY! Landlady loses RM30,000 to three 'tenants'
BESUT - On the pretext of checking out a room for rent at a house in Kampung Raja here yesterday, two women and a man robbed the owner of jewellery worth about RM30,000 and escaped.
The incident occurred about 5.40pm when the victim, Karimah Mohd Noor, 61, was showing the room to two of the robbers.
Besut acting police chief DSP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said today, one of the robbers was brandishing a machete to threaten the woman during the robbery.
He said the robbers relieved Karimah of the jewellery she was wearing at the time, which comprised two bracelets, diamond ring, gold ring and a pair of gold ear-rings worth about RM30,000.
The trio escaped in a car.
Meanwhile, a farmer who reprimanded a youth for allegedly attacking a group of villagers was himself pounced upon by the machete-wielding assailant.
The 27-year-old victim sustained a slash wound on the right leg in the incident at Kampung Padang Bual, Hulu Besut.
Noorzainy said the farmer was playing carom with his friends at a sundry shop about 1am when he saw the youth attacking several villagers.
When he enquired about the incident, he was slashed on the right thigh before the assailant was apprehended and handed over to the police. The farmer sought treatment at the Besut Hospital.
