Menteri-besar hopeful Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail wrote a second letter to the sultan of Selangor, in yet another attempt to seek an audience with the palace after having her first bid turned down, The Star reported today.
The request for an audience with the palace was sent on Tuesday, the report said, but this time, PKR president signed with her own name.
The second letter did not state why Dr Wan Azizah is seeking an audience but merely said that she wanted to provide an explanation.
But the sultan will only return to the country on August 23 after leaving for an overseas trip yesterday.
Dr Wan Azizah's husband and PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had sent the first letter last Sunday, requesting an audience with the sultan to explain the decision made by the PKR leadership to sack Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim from the party.
The sultan's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani had previously said the sultan had instructed him to inform Anwar that he would not accept the request as Khalid had already met him on Khalid's position as menteri besar.
"The sultan of Selangor felt Khalid's expulsion from PKR is an internal party issue and does not affect his position as a member of the state assembly.
"His Royal Highness does not want to interfere in PKR's internal issues," he said.
The embattled MB met the sultan on Monday, where the latter had consented to Khalid continuing as MB.

Khalid, who is Port Klang assemblyman, said he had informed the sultan that he still commanded the majority of support in the assembly, despite his sacking from PKR on August 9.
PKR expelled Khalid for defying the party’s orders to step down as MB and make way for Dr Wan Azizah to replace him.

But the royal snub has been a setback for Kajang assemblyman Dr Wan Azizah, whom reports have indicated, will not be accepted as MB by the palace.
