PAS's Hulu Kelang assemblyman Shaari Sungib is ready to face the sack from his party for backing PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, but said the prospect of being an independent will not sway his decision.
"I believe my stand today is not against any PAS policy because my party had stated it is fully with Pakatan," he said after 30 representatives declared their loss of confidence in Khalid as MB at a hotel in Subang Jaya today.
Shaari and his PAS colleague, Morib representative Hasnul Baharuddin were the first state lawmakers from Selangor PAS to publicly back Dr Wan Azizah.
The top leadership of Islamist party is scheduled to meet on Sunday on the Selangor MB crisis.
Despite pre-empting his party's decision on the matter, Shaari said he stood by his move despite the possibility of being punished by PAS.
"My main consideration is to secure the Pakatan government in Selangor and my stand is not against the party's stand.”
Explaining the decision, Shaari said it there were a few more days yet to the meeting and Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's behaviour was intolerable by the hour.
He said he had informed a few PAS leaders of his decision but refused to divulge the names.
Hasnul in echoing Shaari's reasons for backing Wan Azizah, said it was clear that Khalid had to go.
He was confident that the grassroots agreed with his decision.
"I feel the PAS leadership should consider this. I am still loyal to PAS."
