Zahid denies police are targeting Pakatan

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has rejected suggestions that police are practising selective investigations on matters involving opposition politicians.

Zahid said police investigate all cases that are reported and all investigation papers are handed to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“I think police complete all investigation papers and we are not the prosecution. The prosecution is not done by the police,” he said.

“We only prepare the investigation papers and leave the prosecution to others. Hence, the question should be asked the prosecution,” Zahid told journalists after officially opening the 23rd Malaysian Security Services Association meeting.

He said this when asked on the investigations and prosecution of Pakatan Rakyat politicians, with several of them being charged with sedition this month alone.

On Aug 19, Padang Serai MP N Surendran was charged with sedition related to Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case.

Two days ago Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer also faced two charges in a  Penang sessions court over his “Umno celaka” remark.

Yesterday, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, claimed trial to insulting Umno members with intent to disrupt the public peace.

This was followed by Surendran being prosecuted on a second sedition charge, to which also he claimed trial.

On the police investigation into Perkasa information chief Ruslan Kasim, Zahid said it has been completed.

“Police reports and investigations have been made. The investigation papers are with the AG’s Chambers.”

Yesterday, PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad asked for thestatus of police investigations against Ruslan for threatening to behead Pakatan leaders in remarks he made on June 23.
