Esscom studies curfew options

If curfew is withdrawn, intruders can enter our country and jeopardise safety of the people and tourists.
lahad-datu-alertKOTA KINABALU: Ending the current curfew imposed along the eastern seaboard of Sabah will hinge on the outcome of a study being currently undertaken by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) on its implications on the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).
The gathering of human intelligence will be a key factor.
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed this on the sidelines of the Beaufort Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings delegates meeting in Beaufort.
He fears that ending the curfew completely will only give “room and opportunity” for those bent on carry out guerrilla activities along the eastern seaboard.
“These intruders from the southern Philippines have a vengeful nature and are willing to die in order to achieve their requirements and wishes,” he warned.
“If we fully withdraw the curfew, the intruders will surely enter our country and jeopardise the safety of the people and tourists in the waters off the Sabah east coast.”
He was confident that the curfew had contributed in a positive manner to the security situation in Sabah.
