Is it wrong to speak about Sabah's SPECIAL RIGHTS? - Darell Leiking
KUALA LUMPUR - Darell Leiking has called on Sabah Barisan Nasional politicians to speak out against the Sedition Act used on locals who voice their dissatisfaction over Sabah’s administration.
The Sabahan lawmaker, in a press statement today, also lambasted an unnamed “pro BN non-governmental organisation” which had resorted to lodging a police report against former Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) vice-chairman Tan Sri Simon Sipaun over his take on the manner the state was being run.
“Why is it seditious in nature to speak and discuss about the special rights and privileges held by Sabah, which have been acknowledged by the signatories to the Malaysian Agreement 1963 in the first place or even the mistreatment felt by the Sabahans all this while?”
Darell described the act of the NGO as a “show of arrogance beyond comprehension”.
The Penampang Member of Parliament also wondered why anyone would make a police report against a retired civil servant who compared the past and present administration
The former state’s secretary’s comments, Leiking argued, did not any way belittle any of the previous efforts of those who fought for the independence of Sabah.
He then alleged that the current culmination of anger leashed out by Sabahans against the current BN government had reached “a boiling point” due to its incompetency and inability in managing the state.
“If one analyses the situation logically, it will be clear that this culmination of anger would not be there if the BN government had done the tasks entrusted upon them by the Sabahans in the first place, instead of fighting to ensure its political survival remained intact!”
He went on to cite the existence of 800,000 illegal immigrants in the state due to the Project IC — the moniker given to describe the allegation of systematic granting of citizenship to immigrants — and the imbalance of development and mistreatment of the state.
Describing Sabah as an independent nation long before the formation of the Federation of Malaysia, the PKR politician added that had BN done a good job in its 20 years, there would never have been complaints from Sabahans.
Leiking then went on to list the demands which the locals clamour for, which included being recognised as an equal partner within the Federation.
Echoing calls made by former Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Datuk Henrynus Amin on releasing the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the illegal immigrants in the state, which ended last September, Leiking said Sabahans were eagerly waiting for the report. -http://www.therakyatpost.com
