On Malaysia Day, a picnic protest to stand against fear and heal the racial divide

Malaysians want a government that prioritises the welfare of its citizens instead of just jailing critics, said activist Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, in light of challenging race relations on the back of an ongoing sedition blitz against dissidents.
The patron of civil society movement Negara-Ku said many Malaysians had wonderful memories of the country as they grew up but that there were forces bent on destroying this.
"We want a government who looks after us, not a government who puts people behind bars for expressing their opinions," she said in a short speech during the Piknik Rakyat event at Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya, this morning.
There was an air of festivity as people mingled with one another and shared food.
