Outgoing Khalid rushes to 'seal' Putrajaya deal: Water deal to be finalised by next week

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim confirmed today that the state government's takeover of water concessionaires will be finalised by next week.
Under the deal, Selangor will take control of all the state's water concessionaires, including Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor (Splash).
"The agreement is now at its final stage for signing," Khalid told reporters after the state executive council meeting.
Asked when the agreement will be signed, he said: "(Either) this weekend, or next week."
A heads of agreement has been signed between the Selangor and federal governments to conclude the restructuring of the Selangor water industry.
The agreement was signed by Khalid as well as Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili.
This follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two back on Feb 26, in relation to the construction of the Langat 2 water treatment plant.
The Selangor agreement on the state’s takeover of four water companies, Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), Splash and Konsortium Abass Sdn Bhd, will receive compensation of RM9.65 billion.
Splash had been the remaining concessionaire stalling the deal with the state government.
However, Khalid today confirmed that all quarters had agreed to invoke the Water Services Industry Act (Wasia) to acquire Splash. -M'kini
