REALLY? BN won't bring 'GANGSTERS' to P Kubor by-election - Mustapa
KUALA LUMPUR - Although the Pengkalan Kubor by-election kicks off on Sept 13, things are already heating up there.
Kelantan Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Pakatan Rakyat has already started its propaganda by defaming Barisan Nasional (BN).
He said the accusation that BN will bring gangsters during the by-election was a slanderous statement filled with bad intentions.
“We take the more mature and professional approach because Malaysia is a peaceful nation and we abide by the nation’s laws.
“In this by-election, we don’t want to cause any problems or misunderstanding.
“BN has no ill intentions or plan to bring any gangsters to the by-election. It is just a lie intended to scare the voters,” he told reporters here.
It was earlier reported that Kelaboran assemblyman Zaki Ibrahim had claimed that BN was going to bring thugs to the by-election. He said this when making a speech during a PAS event.
Meanwhile, in a related matter, Bernama reported Mustapa as saying that the ruling coalition was in no hurry to prepare the candidates’ list for the by-election.
“We have yet to finalise the list of candidates and are still in the process of assessing the candidates as there are still three days left,” he said at a press conference in Kota Baru.
Mustapa, who is also the International Trade and Industry Minister, also denied PAS’ claims that BN had failed to bring development to Pengkalan Kubor despite winning in three general elections.
“I advise PAS to be careful when saying such things. The Member of Parliament here (Tumpat) is from PAS. What has he done for Pengkalan Kubor?”
The by-election was called following the death of Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar, 57, due to liver cancer on Aug 20.
At the last general election, Noor Zahidi beat PKR’s Saharun Ibrahim (PKR) and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary with a majority of 1,736 votes.
The Election Commission has set Sept 13 as the nomination day and Sept
25 for voting. -http://www.therakyatpost.com
