All are pendatang - what say Gerakan, MCA chiefs?

FREE YOURSAY 'If only MCA and Gerakan leaders would speak up like this old uncle'

Remember you are pendatang too, Umno told

Anonymous_1371482984: Gerakan Johor delegate Tan LaiSoon is one brave Gerakan member. What about Gerakan and MCA leaders -they dare not speak out.

Malaysian 53: Brave words from a Gerakan member! Hope he does not get castigated by the Umno goons, Isma and Perkasa. Worse still, the Umno assembly would be full of racist speeches, with this unknown Tan Lai Soon being the menu of the weekend! Brave man he is but he is only stating facts! Unfortunately, many in Umno cannot accept facts- see what happened to Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat stories!

Concerned1: Tan Lai Soon, you speak the truth. If your leader thinks and speaks like you, Gerakan has hope. It will be worse if Gerakan people were to stay in BN. First thing first, scold your wanita chief Tan Lian Hoe, ask her to shut up if she does not have anything useful to say.

Anonymous_1396082206: If only MCA and Gerakan leaders would speak up like this old uncle, he has the fire and what he spoke, he spoke well and that is the truth. We are Malaysians by law, so who are the Umno folk to question our rights?

Nil: There were no pendatangs as far as 'Malaysia' is concerned. When the new country was signed into being on 16th September, 1963 all the '1st generation' people were already there to became its 1st citizens, be they Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Muruts, Bajaus, the Orang Aslis - all - be they in Malaya or Sabah or Sarawak.

Only those who came to Malaysia after 16th Sept, 1963 and who obtained MyKads legally can be considered as 'pendatangs', that is, if you really want to use the term but that is also wrong, because 'pendatang' implies 'non-citizens'.

cocomomo: We are all pendatang, only a matter of how many generations our forefathers were here. Maybe the cut-off should be independence in 1957. Maybe only those after that should be called pendatang.

Many of those calling others pendatang may have been around less (in terms of number of generations) than those they have been calling pendatang. Those brought in after independence to change the racial and/or religious demographics (like in Sabah) are the real pendatang whose status maybe questionable.

The Analyser: At a rough guess I would say that man has been telling his fellow men to 'go home' ever since the first cave man moved from one cave to another. We are all pendatang except for a few Africans.

But it takes poor pathetic thin skinned, insecure Malaysians to take offence from such childish jibes. And even more thin skinned Malaysians to respond to such jibes in a like manner.

Angel: The last time MCA said this, Umno Youth gathered at TPCA stadium, Najib Razak was reportedly carried up and he showed the keris and said 'balik tongsan'. Then Operation Lalang came.

Blackmoon: Bugis, Minangkabaus, Javanese, Bruneians, Singapore Malays and Filipinos are not pendatang in Malaysia because they are from the Malay Archipelago. Najib, a Bugis will be a pendatang if he migrates to China.

GrooTheWanderer: Muhyiddin’s father, Muhammad Yassin Mohammad, was of Bugis descent. Muhammad Yassin was an Islamic theologian and cleric based in Bandar Maharani, Muar, Johor, while his mother, Hajjah Khadijah Kassim, was Javanese.

Thana55: Go back to the constitution and all will be well. The trouble is that Umno has trampled on it and it is timely the non-bumiputeras regain what is provided for them in the Constitution. NEP was designed for uplifting and on needs based. Umno hijacked it as just for the Malays.

Nowhere in the constitution, it says 7% discount (rich or poor) for bumiputeras. Now where in the constitution does it allow public institutions funded by taxpayers to be manned by 98% of one race. So it is time to push back.

Smer: Well, food for thought. Malays in the federal constitution is defined partly as 'person who professes the religion of Islam', but Islam is a foreign religion from the Middle East. So...

Fair Play: Wow! After more than 50 years of independence, it all comes down to this - more posturing and chest beating by all the BN component political parties.

No wonder, the nation is regressing by the years, if not by the months. -Mkini
