ARISE & FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS - Kit Siang calls on Malaysians to stand up if Anwar convicted

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has called on Malaysians to commence the third wave of uprising should opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim be convicted.
According to Lim, the first wave of the movement was the reformasi movement in 1998 after Anwar was sacked as deputy prime minister.
He added that the second wave was when Malaysians united to deny BN a two third parliamentary majority during the 2008 and 2013 general elections.
"If Anwar is sent to jail on Wednesday, what should we do?
"I say we should start the third wave of uprising to fight for our rights through our democratic means as citizens of this country," he told the fundraising dinner for Gerakan Hapus Akta Hasutan (GHAH) last night.
The Gelang Patah MP said Anwar was not a troublemaker or traitor but a patriot who deserved the support of the people.
Meanwhile, civil society group Negara-Ku patron Ambiga Sreenevasan told the audience that "real change" can only come when youths stand up.
She added that Putrajaya likes to use "chaos" as an excuse for not exacting change, like not fulfilling its promise to repeal the Sedition Act.
"Has there been any chaos in this country? The answer is ‘no’.
"Only the government is using this line. If there is no chaos, there is no justification for the Sedition Act," she said.
Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali praised some 2,000 students and supporters who concurrently held a gathering in UM to hear Anwar speak despite a lock down by university authorities.
He also echoed Ambiga's criticism of the Sedition Act.
"If the government is strong, has the legitimacy and support of the people, it does not need to use the Sedition Act to oppress the people," he said.
Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu  said despite controversial remarks hurled by right-wing group leaders such as Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali, the civil society did not want to see him charged under the Sedition Act either.
"Do you want to see (Perkasa chief) Ibrahim Ali charged under Sedition Act? Definitely not.
"If we do not agree to us being charged under the Act, then we should also not agree to the Act being used on others," he said. -M'kini
