BIGGEST JOKE! Gov’t ensures people’s income rises in line with living cost - Wahid
KUALA LUMPUR - The government will ensure that the people’s income continues to rise in line with the movement in the cost of living, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said the government would continue to implement pro-active measures to enable 28.7 per cent or two million households in the country still earning less than RM3,000 per month to enjoy better living condition in line with the living cost movement.
Although the preliminary study on household income and treasury by the Malaysian Statistics Department recently showed an increase in household income in Malaysia, the government was still not satisfied.
“Although we are on the right track, we are still not satisfied,” he said when replying to a question from Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim (BN-Kuala Selangor) at the Dewan Rakyat, here today.
He said this was because many families earned an income of less than RM3,000 per month although there was an increase of 10 per cent in the number of households earning RM3,000 and more per month from 2009 until 2014 based on a recent study.
Irmohizam wanted to know the extent of the salary movement or the people’s income in line with the increase in per capita income of the people in view of the fact that the New Economic Model focused on increasing the people’s per capita income by 2020 besides raising the income of the low and medium-income groups.
The Dewan Rakyat Sitting for the Third Meeting, Second Term of the 13th Parliament began today and will sit for 28 days.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the Finance Minister, is scheduled to table the 2015 Budget on Friday.
Abdul Wahid said that based on the same study, the average household income had risen from RM4,025 per month in 2009 to RM5,000 per month in 2012 and RM5,919 per month in 2014 based on initial data of the study. – BERNAMA
