Borneo schools did not get promised RM1b

About 600 schools in Sabah and Sarawak in need of repairs and no allocation for six destroyed in fire.
jeffrey sabah studentKOTA KINABALU: The RM1 billion allocation promised by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to repair 600 dilapidated schools in Sabah and Sarawak is missing from Budget 2015.
Star Sabah chief Jeffrey Kitingan said the RM56 billion allocation to the Education Ministry did not mention the RM1 billion for schools in Sabah and Sawarak.
“There was also no allocaion for the six schools in Sabah which were razed earlier this year,” said Kitingan who is also Bingkor assemblyman.
“The least that Budget 2015 could have done is to build these schools.
“Either the prime minister and his deputy are not on speaking terms or Muhyiddin was lying when he gave the RM1 billion pledge.
“The third reason could be that schools in Sabah and Sarawak are not a priority for the federal government,” he said.
The Star Sabah chief said federal ministers should “stop their lies and worthless promises” when visiting Sabah and Sarawak.
“They should also stop treating Sabah and Sarawak as colonies to exploit our oil wealth and revenues but neglect us when it comes to development,” he said.
The empty promises are just not confined to education alone, he said, and urged the people to take a good look at Budget 2015 to find out for themselves how they had been left out and short-changed.
He added that Kalabakan MP Ghapur Salleh revealed in Parliament last week that he was made to launch an affordable housing in Felda Emas Sabah but after 18 months, the project had yet to kick off.
“The scheme was pledged in the Barisan Nasional manifesto as part of one million houses to be built within five years,” said Kitingan.
