BR1M not the answer, stopping corruption is

PCM president says BR1M won’t save the country from its financial woes.
darshanPETALING JAYA: President of the Perak Consumer Movement (PCM) Darshan Singh has said that BR1M, while a good start, will not bolster the country’s economy in the long run.
“The BRIM initiative is a good start, but, is a once-off payment a feasible solution in the longer run?” Darshan asked.
He said what was really needed was a concerted effort by the government to check administration leakages and corruption, which in his opinion were the real culprits of a lagging economy.
He said, “Equally critical for the government is to double its efforts for checking cost leakages within its administration and the findings must be transparent and disclosed annually in the Auditor General’s report.”
Darshan also said the government must “elevate its practices to fight corruption”.
Other suggestions included “tax reform or relief” for the middle income group in the areas of tuition fees, school bus fees, full EPF contributions, family medical expenses, child day care and cost of parental care.
Darshan also said, “A strong middle income group with wide spending power will contribute towards robust domestic economic growth.”
He explained that this group was “the key driver in achieving our aspiration of developed nation status by 2020”.
The PCM president also said, “In order to sustain domestic consumption, the government needs to put more money into the pockets of the middle income group.”
Darshan said this in response to the recent fuel hike and the fear of impending inflation due to spiralling costs in the country.
