Customers to pay more for lorry transport

Two lorry associations say they have no choice but to pass the cost of increased diesel prices to their customers.
lorryKUALA LUMPUR: Two lorry associations have said that they have no choice but to charge more for transportation thereby transferring the recently announced increase in diesel prices, to their customers.
Pan-Malaysian Lorry Owners’ Association president Jong Foh Jit said the increase was inevitable as refraining from transferring this increase would negatively impact operating costs.
“We can’t do anything about the diesel price increase. However our business relies on this energy source, so we have no other option but to increase our transportation costs,” Jong told a leading Chinese newspaper.
Meanwhile Alvin Chong of the Selangor Lorry Owners’ Association said the increase of diesel by 10% would result in the increase in transportation fees by 3-5%.
Saying an official statement would be made once council members had a chance to discuss the issue at length, he added, “I will advice our members not to take advantage of the situation.”
The price of RON95 was increased by 20 sen to RM2.30 per litre while the new price of diesel is RM2.20 per litre.
