Himself deflecting attention from 'burn Bible' call, Ibrahim Ali accuses PR of tricks to fool the people
Datuk Ibrahim Ali today accused Pakatan Rakyat of raising many issues lately to distract people from the Selangor imbroglio, which saw Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim relinquishing his post as menteri besar.
The Perkasa president said that just about any opportunity is being turned into an issue, especially by the DAP, whom he said seemed the most enthusiastic about pulling the wool over people's eyes.
"Now PR, DAP in particular, are enthusiastically trying to fix the injury (in PKR) by bringing up different kinds of issues, they want the people to forget what happened in Selangor. That is their game now," Ibrahim told The Malaysian Insider.
In August, PKR sacked Khalid for not abiding by the party’s decision to make way for its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the new MB.
The eight-month long Selangor MB impasse eventually saw Mohamed Azmin Ali being appointed the menteri besar, despite the fact that PKR and DAP had only named Dr Wan Azizah as their sole candidate.
Her nomination was, however, not welcomed by PAS, especially its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Ibrahim said today that Putrajaya did not have to explain or address any accusation and allegations thrown by PR leaders as it would only make things worse.
He said what Barisan Nasional needed to focus on was how to overcome the rising cost of living and reduce the burden of the people.
"In my opinion, BN's strategy should be not to respond to these issues. The more they respond, the bigger it becomes.
"What is important for BN is for them to focus on how to make the people happy."
Ibrahim, however, refused to comment when asked to elaborate on the calls for him to be investigated under the Sedition Act for threatening to burn Bibles.
"I was advised not to comment, I have explained before. So there is no need for me to repeat."
Ibrahim also weighed in on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's upcoming Sodomy II appeal, saying that he was hoping that Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan is given the justice due to him.
"I don't want to jump ahead of the court's decision. I always pray that Saiful, who is the victim in this tragedy, is accorded justice.
"It is unfortunate a young Malaysian has become a victim to a leader. A lot of people are supporting Anwar on political grounds.
"Those who are supporting Anwar are the ones who talk about justice, morals, character and transparency. But Saiful is just a normal human being, he is left alone to fight his case," he told The Malaysian Insider.
Ibrahim continued to defend Saiful, who was Anwar's former aide and who accused the opposition leader of sodomising him in 2008, saying that the former had already suffered enough pain and shame as he had to wait a long time to obtain justice.
"I just want justice for him. Others, when they are tortured, they receive justice quickly. Their trial is over in a year, but Saiful has had to wait for such a long time." –TMI
