Former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will not resign as Port Klang assemblyman, his aide, Faekah Hussin, said in quashing rumours and a news report that he would do so after being sacked from PKR on August 9.
Faekah said Khalid had no reason to do so. This was also the view of his former press secretary, Arfa'eza Abdul Aziz, when both were contacted by The Malaysian Insider.
"There is no reason for him to quit as Port Klang's representative and we hope that his constituents do not believe such rumours" Faekah said.
Khalid had been sacked from PKR in August for refusing to give way to party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to take over the post.
He is now the sole independent legislator in the Selangor assembly. He is also member of parliament for the Bandar Tun Razak constituency.
After getting the sack, Khalid had tendered his resignation as menteri besar but the Sultan of Selangor deferred and instructed the Pakatan Rakyat parties to submit more than two names for the ruler to consider as a successor.
The sultan then appointed Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also the PKR deputy president, as the new menteri besar.
