Kit Siang : Tell me where I twisted PM’s speech

MCA and Gerakan leaders dare not tell Najib that his speech was offensive.
lim kit siang_najib_2KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser and Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang said he was willing to apologise if MCA, Gerakan and Umno leaders can point out where he had “twisted” Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s speech.
Lim was commenting on MCA and Gerakan ministers who had claimed that online news portals had “twisted” Najib’s speech at the MCA general assembly on Sunday.
“Isn’t Najib’s message very obvious, that the Chinese community cannot expect the government to be fair if they do not support the BN?” asked Lim.
He said Najib’s speech at the MCA general assembly was a new variation of his “You help me, I help you” line, which he made infamous in the Sibu parliamentary by-election in May 2010.
Najib had said: “You can’t demand and then support DAP. You can’t demand and then support PR. You demand, you support BN, we will be fair to the Chinese community.”
Lim said it was indeed pathetic that MCA and Gerakan leaders dare not even tell Najib that his speech was offensive and obnoxious.
Lim said MCA and Gerakan leaders were seeking to deny the truth instead of facing up to harsh realities.
He also said de facto Law Minister Nancy Shukri’s outrageous reply on why Ibrahim Ali was not charged with sedition would not end until she faced up to the reality that neither common sense nor the law could accept the defence of Islam or Federal Constitution Article 11(4) as valid reasons to justify threats to burn the Malay-language Bible.
“Have Malaysian lawlessness reached a stage where the threat to commit crime, subversion or even terrorism can be justified for defending the sanctity of any religion or the Constitution?” he asked.
He added that Nancy still owed Parliament and the nation an apology for her shocking reply and subsequent explanation.
Yesterday, Ibrahim Ali defended his threat to burn the Malay-language Bible in January 2013 saying it was only meant for Muslim parents of students who were allegedly given the holy book outside their school last year.
Ibrahim made the threat to burn the Malay-language Bible in Permatang Pauh in Penang on Jan 19, 2013, which was followed by a series of police reports lodged against him.
