KL BOMB BLAST: Zahid, IGP, Cty Hall slammed for growth of underground activities

KL BOMB BLAST: Zahid, IGP, Cty Hall slammed for growth of underground activities
KUALA LUMPUR - Home Minister Zahid Hamidi, police chief Khalid Bakar and City Hall got a shelling as outraged citizens demanded an explanation for the bomb blast that injured at least 14 people outside a pub in Jalan Bukit Bintang.
"The burning question is why do we allow night clubs and to open until 4.30am? Aren't they supposed to close by 2am? What are the authorities and DBKL (City Hall) doing?" Sim Tze Tzin, the MP for Bayan Baru, told Malaysia Chronicle.
"Secondly, how could the public or even gangsters get easy access to such deadly firearms. Police and the Home Ministry must be held responsible for such deterioration of public safety. This incident shows how serious and deadly underground activities have become in Malaysia."
Too much politicking, Sedition blitz but not enough on core issues
Bomb blasts and hardcore violence are rare in Malaysia despite recent accusations it is becoming a growing hotbed of extremism infiltrated by terror groups from the Middle East.

Growing crime, despite denials by the police who insist the crime rate has been dropping, is however a common grouse among Malaysians, who blame government leaders including Prime Minister Najib Razak for overly focusing on suppressing critics instead of tackling basic issues of public safety and costs of living.
"The government must step up intelligence and surveillance on criminal elements. Also stop wasting time going after politicians and academics for Sedition," MP for Batu Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.
Underworld tussle?
In the shock Thursday incident, at least 14 people were injured by the explosion in front of a pub along Jalan Bukit Bintang in the heart of the city.
Police sources have been reported as saying a car jockey was seriously hurt and in critical condition.
"Police received a complaint at 4.25am and sent a dispatch to the scene to ascertain the damage.
"Initial reports indicate that a bomb had been thrown from the second floor of a building."
The injured, 12 men and two women, aged between 20 and 42, were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Tung Shin Hospital.
"The injured included nationals from Thailand, China and Singapore. Some of them were pub patrons,” said one of the sources.
"Initial investigations reveal that two hand grenades were thrown but only one exploded.
"Shrapnel from the hand grenade caused injuries to passers-by," the source added.
Four vehicles were damaged in the blast – a Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Camry, Mazda and BMW.
Police found the second hand grenade, which failed to explode, under the Toyota Camry.
"We believe this is linked to an underworld tussle,” said the police source.- Malaysia Chronicle
