No regrets, say PAS duo suspended for supporting Wan Azizah

Two PAS assemblymen who were suspended by the Islamist party for endorsing Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim for the Selangor menteri besar post say it was all “worth it”.
Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin and Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib were suspended for a year by the Islamist party on Sunday as their endorsement of the PKR president’s candidacy breached the party’s stand.
Hasnul (pic, right) said that although he was taken aback by the one-year suspension, his main mission to ensure power remained in the hands of Pakatan Rakyat had been accomplished.
He said he had anticipated disciplinary action to be taken against him for supporting Dr Wan Azizah for the MB post, but added that he accepted the decision by PAS.
Hasnul said he had not been notified by the party about his suspension.
"For now, I have not got an official letter, but I am considering filing an appeal," he said.
PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali had announced on Sunday that Saari and Hasnol were suspended for one year with immediate effect.
Mustafa said the disciplinary action taken was based on the party's constitution, adding that the duo had 15 days to file an appeal against the decision.
Saari (pic, left) told The Malaysian Insider that he had not decided on his next course of action as the party had yet to formally notify him.
"I will only decide whether to appeal after I get the letter," he said, adding that he only came to know of the suspension through media reports.
The former Internal Security Act detainee said that since he was not officially informed of the suspension by any PAS central committee member, he would continue as usual in his role as an assemblyman and also as PAS Gombak central committee member.
Saari also said he had not been contacted by any PR leaders to show support against his suspension.
"So far, no assemblyman or leader from PR has contacted me, maybe because it has not even been 24 hours since the news broke," he said last night.
The meeting on October 12 was chaired by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and also attended by deputy president Mohammad Sabu, vice-president Salahuddin Ayub, information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar and central committee member Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
On August 14, Hasnul and Saari, along with 15 DAP assemblymen and 13 PKR assemblymen pledged their support to Dr Wan Azizah to replace Khalid Ibrahim as the menteri besar.
They did this ahead of the party’s central committee meeting on August 17 to decide on the matter.
