ROSMAH flayed for using Budget money to fund education of rich kids, with MUSIC LESSONS thrown in
Permata, an early childhood education programme under the Prime Minister's Department, is just a “shortcut for rich kids”, Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin said in parliament today.
Those selected for the Permata programme tend to be children from wealthy families, Zuraida said when debating Budget 2015 allocations to the programme.
“It is a shortcut programme like Permata Seni, where those selected to join the music programme are children from rich families.
“If Permata is really for early childhood education and is so good, it should be helping poor children and should expanded to Sabah,” Zuraida said while Lenggong MP from Barisan Nasional, Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, was speaking.
Shamsul Anuar was defending the amount of money allocated to Permata, a charity organisation led by the prime minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, under the budget.
Permata is among the programmes under the Education Ministry that received RM711 million from the government in the budget announcement last week.
Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, however, said that children should not be subjected to discrimination regardless of their backgrounds.
“Why do you have to discriminate between rich kids and poor kids?” Azalina said. –TMI
