The Chinese have their rights, too

YOURSAY 'Not voting for BN doesn't mean they lose their constitutional privileges.'

DAP flays MCA for not standing up to Najib

Kim Quek: MCA's only avowed mission is to safeguard the political rights of Chinese Malaysians, and yet here we have MCA chief Liow Tiong Lai scrambling to cover up BN chief and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's point-blank insult and blackmail of the Chinese community, right on the stage of MCA's annual general assembly.

Speaking to the delegates in the assembly, Najib said: "You can't demand and then support DAP. You can't demand and then support Pakatan." This message is crystal clear: If you don't vote for us, you can't ask for your rights under this government.

Isn't this a blatant violation of the fundamental liberties of Chinese Malaysians guaranteed under Part Two of the Federal Constitution, which states that all citizens are equal (Article 8), have freedom of expression and association (Article 10), entitled to life and liberty (Article 5), no discrimination in education (Article 12), etc?

If Liow still insists that Najib's words were distorted by the web media, would he put Najib's entire speech on YouTube for everyone to see and hear?

Swipenter: MCA was castrated by Umno Baru a long time ago, under Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration. Since then, when can a MCA president stand shoulder to shoulder, nose to nose with an Umno Baru president?

Maybe, during Tan Cheng Lock's time, MCA was an equal partner in the Alliance coalition. But vindictive politics is a hallmark of the Umno Baru/BN government, as far as I can remember.

My parents used to tell me that if they didn't vote for BN (Alliance during their time) then don't expect any allocation for development in your constituency.

This has not changed, therefore the Chinese (the insinuation is that all Chinese are opposition supporters) cannot make any demands from the Umno Baru government. Therefore, the Chinese must grow a spine of steel to help themselves to survive and thrive, except those in MCA.

Pakatan-ku: It is really funny. We all know that all along MCA is subservient to Umno. During the Selangor MB crisis, DAP had been subservient to Anwar Ibrahim/PKR.

If DAP had stood steadfast to its own slogan of CAT - (Competency, Accountability and Transparency) - it would have not blindly supported PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

As a result, DAP got slapped by the sultan. If the 'Kajang Move' was to remove Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as menteri besar, wouldn't it have been easier to nominate Azmin Ali from the beginning?

When you send small boys to do a man's job, that's the outcome you get. Time for Pakatan to buck up and defend Selangor.

Truth Really Hurts: Eunuchs are trained to be publicly submissive and obedient. They only complain and curse their predicament in private.

BBT: It is a fact that most of the population (more than 50 percent) do not know they can vote for opposition and yet have the right to demand equal allocations from the government.

The opposition voters think they have committed an offence by their choice of votes, and thus have resigned themselves to not making their rightful demands. MCA president Liow Tiong Lai and Prime Minister Najib Razak are simply taking advantage of this ignorance.

Blame the opposition leaders for not educating the populace. Perhaps the opposition also wants to keep them perpetually stupid. It would be good to start drumming this very concept of empowerment into the population.

Middle Path: We never look for handouts and we don't need them. We have more pride than that. We only ask for what is due to us.

CNHT: The Chinese can survive anywhere. That is why you have Chinatowns here and there. No matter how tough life can be, they will work hard and will soar high. The application of aid such as like BR1M will just make things worse. These are not fair, not right, and are selfish political plots.

Blackmoon: The Chinese in the DAP can choose to remain blind to their leaders' conniving ways if they want to. They have only themselves to blame when the promises are not delivered.

Some Chinese are blind. They cannot see how the Chinese have prospered since Merdeka compared to the other races in Malaysia. The BN, and prior to that, the Alliance, have done a fantastic job that created opportunities, especially for the Chinese.

Do not ever deny that. DAP has done nothing good for them, except sowing hatred towards BN and MCA, and ensuring the survival of the 'tokong' and his dynasty.

At least we have true democracy in the MCA where their leadership have changed over the years. But democracy is a mockery in the DAP.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang will be there until his demise and even before that his son, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, is already building a dynasty. The same goes for Karpal Singh's family. Can the DAP members challenge their leaders in the party election?

Didn't they see what happened in the September 2013 CEC election where 120 illegal branches were allowed to vote for you know who?

Anonymous #97893788: MCA leaders are only interested in getting their share of bread crumbs from Umno and nothing else. They don't represent the Chinese.

They represent themselves in enriching themselves. How can they, when they are told in their face during their AGM that they cannot ask for anything until they get the Chinese to support Umno. A slap in their faces and Liow still wants to explain it away.

The Analyser: I wonder why DAP is troubling itself with what MCA has to say. Two points here. Haven't you all written off MCA as being totally irrelevant to the Chinese community?

And, don't you think DAP might have a few more important things to think about? If PAS leaves the coalition, as you all seem to want. What then?

If PKR implodes because of lack of leadership and lack of direction - what then? If DAP, suddenly realises it no longer has any direction either - what then?

Your 'oh-so-clever' insults of everything you don't like will get you exactly where you are now. In a limbo.

AZIZ BIN KADER: The only failure of BN government is to make Chinese same as Indians and Malays, where, in order to survive, they must get government aid.

MIC and Umno leaders should learn from Chinese how to make their community survive without Umno government aid. If we can do these, then Malaysia can achieve Vision 2020.

But the consequences of this success would mean that the BN and Umno government will collapse. Umno and MIC will make sure their communities are below standard. Otherwise they will lose political power. -Mkini
