Umno man should leave BN for seditious remark

MCA’s Ti Lian Ker says Mohamed Azli should leave Umno if he doesn't agree with his party's policy of allowing Chinese schools.
student1PETALING JAYA: MCA Religious Harmony Bureau Chairman Ti Lian Ker said Umno’s Mohamad Azli Mohemed Saad “is very welcome to leave BN” since he disagrees with Barisan Nasional’s policy to allow Chinese vernacular schools to exist.
Reacting to Mohamad Azli’s outlandish suggestion that Umno debate the status of Chinese vernacular schools in Malaysia, Ti reminded him that BN had pledged to continue funding the construction of national-type schools during the last general elections.
Ti, who is also MCA Central Committee member, said Mohamad Azli had made a “careless call” that was “liable to create racial tension”.
Questioning Barisan Nasional’s “spirit of inclusiveness” should Umno take up Mohamad Azli’s suggestion, Ti said it contravened the Federal Constitution and BN’s policy to defend the people’s right to learn their own mother tongue if they chose to.
Ti also wanted the police to investigate Mohamad Azli for sedition.
He said, “I wish to remind Mohamad Azli that in October 1978, a Sabah UMNO MP, Mark Koding was charged for sedition for advocating the call to abolish SJKC (Chinese schools) and SJKT (Tamil schools).
Ti added, “Not only has Mohamed Azli challenged the rights of all Malaysians to study their mother-tongue, but he has also questioned the legitimate rights of the Chinese community to education.”
This backlash from Ti came after Mohamad Azli told a local publication that Chinese schools had been manipulated by opposition parties to “incite hatred towards other races, and spread racial and anti-government sentiments”.
