Why Sanjeevan's bids were LEAKED? 'BMW' bids not made public to respect bidders - JPJ
PUTRAJAYA - The Road Transports Department (JPJ) did not upload on its website the list of official successful bidders for the "BMW" vehicle registration plate so as protect and respect the privacy of the successful bidder.
"It is also to avoid all the negative perception that the public will have of the successful bidders," said JPJ director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad.
Citing the controversy over the "WWW" number plate, Ismail said the department did not want a repeat of the hoohah that happened then.
Meanwhile, Ismail said JPJ will officially begin its nationwide enforcement action on tinted vehicles windscreens and windows on May 1.
"To ensure all vehicle owners including imported vehicles have sufficient time to change their tint accordingly, we have decided to begin the enforcement action from May 1 onwards.
"Failure to comply with the new regulation will result in a RM300 fine and if the case is brought to court, they could face a fine of up to RM1,000 or two weeks' jail, or both, under the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991," he added during a media briefing on the nationwide crackdown for tinted windows, vehicles registration plates, strobe lights and high intensity discharge (HID) lights.
Ismail said that those with special ranks or positions in the country like the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, sultans, prime minister, deputy prime minister, cabinet ministers, chief ministers, mentris besar and Chief Justice can be exempted from the new ruling.
Under the new regulation which will be enforced next month, the permissible visible light transmission (VLT) for the rear windscreen and rear passenger windows will be at 30% while the VLT for the front windscreen and the driver's window will be at 70% and 50% respectively.
On the crackdown on vehicles registration plates, strobe lights and HID lights, Ismail said the department will be conducting a nationwide joint crackdown with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and the police next month.
He added that motorists who failed to adhere to the laws would be penalised not more than RM300 when the advocacy period ends on Oct 30.
"There was an advocacy period of more than one month, Sept 7 until Oct 30, which actually allows motorists to do all necessary changes to their vehicle," he said, adding that during the advocacy period, no summonses were issued by the department. -Sundaily
