The Selangor government today denied issuing a notice claiming that it was giving out financial aid to Selangor-born students at several institutions of higher learning in the state.
Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali's political secretary Shuhaimi Shafiei, in a statement today, said the MB's Office did not distribute any circular offering such aid and described it as an attempt to disrupt the new state administration.
"Our office have received numerous complaints on the matter and deny ever issuing such notice," he said.
He added that although the state government was concern about the welfare of students and the education sector in the state, any announcement related to the matter would only be made through proper channels, such as the media by the relevant department.
"The state government, however, will make an announcement on the list of aid to be given to students in the state budget presentation next week."
The undated notice had mentioned that the state government was offering RM2,000 a year to students from low-income families in the state, as part of Pakatan Rakyat's pledge to provide free education, especially in Selangor.
Without providing the closing date, the letter asked applicants to collect the form at the nearest state assemblyman's office and submit it to the MB's office for processing.
