Pas exco claim SHOCK at Khalid's hush-hush 'electronic transfer' of RM2.6 mil payout to aides

Pas exco claim SHOCK at Khalid's hush-hush 'electronic transfer' of RM2.6 mil payout to aides
The four PAS exco who had served under Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in his last days as Selangor menteri besar were not aware of the RM2.6 million “golden handshake” to his aides, nor endorsed it.
This was made known to Selangor PAS representatives at a meeting last night, said the Islamist party’s Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, who added that the four were taken by surprise by the quantum, which was approved by the Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) board.
"They were only informed by Khalid that the payouts were according to procedures and adhered to the contracts.
"They were surprised when they found out the money was transferred electronically to Khalid's aides at night on his last day as MB," he said at the Parliament lobby today.
The four who formed Khalid's exco were Dr Ahmad Yunus Khairy, Iskandar Abdul Samad, Dr Halimah Ali and Sallehin Mukhyi.
Dr Ahmad and Iskandar were reappointed to new Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali's exco.
Khalid said the four assumed that minutes of the meeting regarding the payments needed to be endorsed.
In describing the payouts as "ludricrous", Shah Alam MP Khalid said the state assembly and the Select Committee of Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) should probe the matter.
It was reported that RM2.27 million in compensation and RM376,000 in lieu of three months' notice were allegedly paid to Khalid's eight members of staff.
In a document sighted by The Malaysian Insider, the highest amount of RM695,400 was allegedly paid to Faekah Husin, former CEO of state-owned Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI).
Azmin had admitted that there were elements of wrongdoing in the matter and that MBI would discuss the next steps to be taken.
However, English daily The Star reported former menteri besar Khalid as saying the payments were made under a voluntary separation scheme (VSS) which was offered to the staff when he left office.
Brushing aside concerns over the amounts, Khalid said the VSS payout made up less than 2% of MBI's RM112 million cash reserves.
DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua expressed his disappointment with the former MB, saying that the move is akin to a betrayal of the people's trust.
"All this while we thought he was someone who places priority on trust and prudent spending but this is a clear case of breach of trust," he said.
PKR had sacked Khalid in August after he failed to attend a disciplinary committee hearing over allegations concerning the Selangor water-restructuring exercise, his debt settlement with Bank Islam and the proposed Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex).
All these came amid a tussle for the Selangor MB's position that started early this year, with the PKR leadership wanting him to step down to make way for PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
The crisis ended when the Sultan of Selangor appointed PKR deputy president Azmin as the new menteri besar. –TMI
