Ex-top cop wants royal inquiry on Najib over information in affidavit

A former senior police officer has urged Putrajaya to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to look into the possibility if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak could have given inaccurate information in a court affidavit.
Former city CID chief Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim, in a statement today, said the matters which he raised could not be hidden from public knowledge as it would eventually be exposed.
"This issue will eventually be exposed, whether directly or via other court proceedings involving Najib or his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, whether as plaintiffs or defendants."
In his SDs, Mat Zain claimed that in some cases, Najib gave his full name as Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, but in others, it was just Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
Furthermore, Mat Zain said there were also contradictions in the address given by Najib, where in some cases it was Jalan Duta, while in others, his official residence in Putrajaya.
The affidavits had been submitted by Najib and Rosmah in the Sodomy II trial involving PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Mat Zain noted that it was important because recently, Najib had resorted to bringing lawsuits against those who criticised him or Rosmah, without considering the backlash that could occur.
In recent weeks, Najib's legal representatives had filed legal notices against Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua (DAP) and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli (PKR).
Pua had criticised Najib over the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) sovereign fund while Rafizi had raised the issue of petrol subsidies.
"Najib cannot be overconfident that the courts will find in his favour or his wife's," Mat Zain wrote in the letter addressed to Nancy.
Mat Zain said both Najib and his wife always took the shortcut to appeal to the courts to throw out any summons filed against them or to set aside any subpoenas requiring them to testify in court.
"As the prime minister, Najib took an oath in Allah's name in front of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong that he would be loyal to Malaysia and would defend and protect the Federal Constitution."
Mat Zain noted that former United States president Bill Clinton had been impeached by the US Senate in 1999 not because of his relationship with Monica Lewinsky but for perjury.
"Najib may have the freedom to meet or talk to anyone regardless of their race, religion or gender."
"But he does not have the right to give false statements whether written or oral, in court proceedings whether civil or criminal."
Mat Zain questioned whether Najib had been wrongly advised by young and overzealous advisers or whether there were elements attempting to sabotage him.
"Whatever it is, it is a fact that Najib's statement in a supporting affidavit which he had pledged himself on September 21, 2011 during the Sodomy II proceeding is false."
