PKR Headquarters in the dark about Roland Chia’s resignation.
KOTA KINABALU: Inanam Assemblyman Dr. Roland Chia, a dental surgeon, has announced his resignation from the seat in a tweet.
Chia, also a Sabah PKR vice-chairman and a party supreme council member, said that he was giving up his seat on health grounds and thanked all his supporters for their work during the last 17 months.
“Due to health reasons, I will step down as Adun Inanam. I thank the Inanam voters and party leadership for ur support over last 17mths,” said Chia briefly on his Twitter account, @rolandchiams.
His party colleagues in PKR seem to have been caught by surprise.
PKR vice-president Darell Leiking, also Penampang MP, hopes that the news is not true.
Api-Api assemblywoman, Christina Liew, wasn’t aware that Chia had health problems. “I contacted party’s HQ and they have not heard anything,” she said.
Chia won Inanam last year by a majority of 3,202 votes against Eric Majimbun of SAPP and Joseph Lantip of Barisan Nasional (BN).
