MACC still silent on Daim’s billions, lavish Melaka wedding

PKR’s Shamsul Iskandar is asking why still no action from MACC after reports were filed about Daim and Ali Rustam.
daim-aliKUALA LUMPUR: The anti-corruption agency MACC has been questioned about its silence in the face of reports filed against former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and former Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
A series of reports have been filed against both of them but MACC appeared to have taken no action, nor called them in for questioning, said Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, vice-president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
At least three reports were filed against Daim last year following allegations that he had billions deposited in banks in Africa and Eastern Europe, according to the party newspaper Berita Keadilan.
A report was also filed about the lavish wedding for Ali Rustam’s daughter which Shamsul said cost RM600,000 by Ali Rustam’s own admission and involved 130,000 guests.
Shamseul, who is MP for Bukit Katil, questioned the use of government facilities and the involvement of various heads of Melaka state agencies in the wedding.
MACC should take serious action in order to restore the people’s faith in the government’s accountability as well as in the anti-corruption agency, he said, pointing to Malaysia’s low standing in international corruption indices.
