Mydin Raises Matching Funds For Flood Victims

Folks lets not forget the flood victims. The waters have receded to a large extent. Now comes the most difficult part that requires the most commitment. The reconstruction and rehabilitation of peoples lives.

Thousands of homes have been destroyed or damaged. People are still sleeping outside. Food and clean water supplies are still not restored.

The gomen has pledged RM14 million. The figure went up to RM500 million. The latest is RM800 million. We dont know how much of this figure will really go to the flood victim and how much will be songlap by the cronies. That jin fellow in Pahang has many cronies.

Anyway many good people, NGOs and corporates are taking matters into their own hands to help the poor.

This picture is from Kelana Jaya. My friend went to his Chinaman car mechanic to fix his car airconditioner and saw these stacks of canned sardines, biscuits and other food stuff.

My friend thought the guy was selling the stuff.

'Ini saya hantar pergi Kelantan, kasi itu banjir punya orang' was the answer from the Chinaman.

Apparently he was sending one shipment every week. Without asking anyone or telling anyone, these  Chinese folks had organised their own relief efforts and were delivering relief supplies to Kelantan. And their logistics was good.

Kelantan is the home state of Perkasa loudspeaker Ibrahim Ali.

Another outfit that is doing things on a much larger scale is Mydin Hypermarket. The Boss Dato Wira Ameer Ali Mydin is the Chairman of our business association in Masjid India (I am the deputy lah).

Mydin Hypermarket is doing plenty to help the flood victims. Here are some pictures:

This is the Mydin relief effort. You can participate or donate if you wish. You can read the information

For every Ringgit collected, Mydin matches another Ringgit.  Dato Ameer said that todate they have collected over RM125,000. So with Mydin matching this amount, the fund has hit RM250,000.  Dato Ameer says their target is RM1.0 million.

These are some of the people and places they are working with.

Getting supplies to the interior places and on time is crucial.  People are not out of the woods yet.  As I said folks the water may have receded but peoples' lives are not back to normal yet.

We can all still do our part and help. The idea is to get in early. People need clean sheets, pillows, clean undergarments, school uniforms now.

What they also need are teams of  workmen with wood, hammers, nails, saws to rebuild their broken homes. Young men and women with strong backs and handyman tools, take a drive, bring some tents (for you to sleep in), park yourselves for a couple of days in a kampong and fix up a house or two. Sikit-sikit lama-lama jadi bukit. You will need one competent supervisor to tell you what to do.
