Rosmah: Najib and I can’t sleep well

The PM's wife complains about wayward youths, but says they are not a lost cause.
najib rosmah1BANGI: The Prime Minister’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, today hit out at the wayward youths of the nation, saying they were among the main sources of social problems in the country.
Among them were those who would race on their motorcycles in the wee hours, disturbing people’s sleep, she said in an address at the closing of a Perkasa camp here.
“At my home in Kuala Lumpur, I would hear the noise from the bikes late at night, loud and lasting for a long time. Obviously, there are many of them racing in the middle of the road,” she said.
“Even at two in the morning, Datuk Najib and I can’t get our sleep because of the noise.”
However, she added, these aimless youths – whether they are drug takers, gangsters, or plain nuisances out to disturb the peace – could be helped to redeem themselves.
“We shouldn’t give up on them,” she said.
“The positive potentials in them, if nurtured properly, can bloom and become their defence against negative influences.”
But she warned that the work of developing the nation’s youth into useful citizens would be a challenging one.
“We are at a critical phase of national development,” she said. “Not only do we have to raise incomes and the quality of life; we also need to ensure that we have the human capital that would drive national development.”
